Jack Pfeiffer to Lead Data Science Team

Fermata Energy Expands Its Leadership Team, Adding Jack Pfeiffer as Data Scientist

Charlottesville, Va. — October 5, 2021 — Fermata Energy continues to expand its leadership team to meet the growing demand for its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) software technology, and the growing electric vehicle (EV) market. To help meet that demand, data science will play a critical role for Fermata Energy — and the companies they work with — to save energy costs during peak energy times. To meet that need, noted data scientist Jack Pfeiffer has joined Fermata Energy to lead the company’s data science team.

Pfeiffer has considerable experience in optimizing the economics of energy storage operations, having led the algorithm development at Geli (which was recently acquired by Hanwha). He and his team developed algorithms to support various objectives, including Demand Charge Management (DCM), Energy Arbitrage, Demand Response and Frequency Regulation.

“The primary barrier to realizing savings from energy storage is uncertainty in electricity consumption, generation and prices,” Pfeiffer said. “I have focused my time on developing software that accounts for and hedges against these various uncertainties. At Fermata Energy, I will have the opportunity to build upon my work and help our customers minimize their electricity bill and maximize revenues from wholesale markets through intelligent controls of their EV chargers."

“As we continue to grow rapidly in an industry that continues to evolve, Jack is a vital member of our team, and will be responsible for developing time series forecasting and optimization algorithms,” said David Slutzky, founder and CEO of Fermata Energy.

“These algorithms will largely center around electricity consumption, generation and prices. The optimization algorithm will determine when to charge or discharge the EV battery, given those forecasts additional electricity costs, operational costs and user preferences,” continued Slutzky. “Through the data Jack secures, he will not only make Fermata Energy a more effective and efficient company, but he will also help our customers find the real power of our V2X technology.”

Fermata was founded in 2010 to design, supply and operate technology to integrate EVs with buildings and the electric grid. In the past quarter, Fermata Energy announced that Scott Brierley joined Fermata Energy’s leadership team as Director of Automotive and Strategic Partnerships, and Melissa Chan has joined as Director of Grid Solutions and Strategic Partnerships. The V2X technology company also announced that former Reddit CTO and founding engineer at Pinterest, Marty Weiner, joined David Sandalow and Tony Posawatz and Fermata Energy’s Advisory Board.
