Navigating the Future of E-mobility

Blog: Top Three Takeaways from MOVE America 2023

This year’s MOVE America show in Austin, Texas was full of impactful conversations about current electric vehicle (EV) trends. The event brought together mobility visionaries, innovators and thought leaders from around the world.

Here are our top three takeaways that left us inspired and eager to continue shaping the ever-evolving future of e-mobility.

  1. The Rise of Mobility-as-a-Service

Mobility is transforming across a wide spectrum from business models, such as shared assets and Vehicles-as-a-Service (VaaS) to new products like electric vehicles, drones and scooters. These new products and the paradigm shift towards Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) demonstrate a new trend that promises to redefine the way we interact with transportation.

The event highlighted that MaaS isn’t just about technology; it’s about providing users with a holistic, end-to-end experience. Attendees learned how data-driven insights, user-friendly interfaces and seamless revenue generating solutions are key elements in making MaaS a reality.

  2. Scalable Sustainability is a Necessity

The resounding theme of MOVE was undoubtedly sustainability. Electric vehicles and their associated industries, such as sourcing, charging and routing, have taken the main stage, and are being demonstrated at scale.

With sustainability at the forefront of discussions, the event emphasized that true scalability lies in electrification well beyond EVs. Groundbreaking developments in battery technology and charging platforms highlighted a shift towards a comprehensive electrified ecosystem.

  3. Charging Infrastructure is a Power Struggle,and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)is Here to Help

As we continue to lean into the adoption of EVs, charging infrastructure is the primary challenge noted for market-wide adoption, and V2G technology is gaining momentum as a critical solution to enable grid supply, stability, decarbonization and decentralization.

Enabling parked EVs to serve as battery packs to power the grid, buildings or homes allows EVs and EV fleet owners to take control of their sustainable investments, harness energy and ultimately transfer power whenever and wherever it’s needed most.

The MOVE America event serves as a powerful reminder that the future of mass e-mobility is not a distant vision, but a tangible reality that we are collectively creating. From sustainable practices to AI-driven and autonomous technologies, this event delivered a comprehensive perspective of the transformative journey ahead. As change makers and industry leaders parted ways, the sense of purpose and determination was palpable, leaving us no doubt that the future of e-mobility is on the brink of a revolution, and the future looks brighter than ever.

"The depth of experience and knowledge of EV fleets and vendors in the electrification space is growing rapidly, and the attention directed toward V2G has more than doubled in the last year. We’re thrilled to be a part of the growing enthusiasm for bidirectional charging solutions in both the commercial and residential markets."
