A first-of-its-kind demonstration

Landmark V2G Technology Demonstration during Climate Week NYC

As part of Climate Week NYC, Fermata Energy, Newlab, and Beam Global partnered up in a first-of-its-kind demonstration showcasing how commercial property owners can begin their shift to renewable energy and the adoption of affordable electric vehicles (EVs).

Fermata Energy orchestrated a demonstration leveraging the Verizon 5G network and the ChargePoint Network. The demo showcased a Nissan LEAF, charged with solar power technology by Beam Global, driving 12 miles from Corona to Newlab's Brooklyn Navy Yard flagship location during its inaugural Climate Week event, New Climate Futures. Energy stored from the sun was successfully discharged from the vehicle back to the building and was managed during peak times by Fermata Energy’s state-of-the-art, AI-enabled platform.

“Today, we demonstrated a reliable solution to a global concern, proving that we can harness and relocate power where it is most needed, utilizing available natural resources and cutting-edge technology," said John Wheeler, co-founder, chief financial officer and chief strategy officer of Fermata Energy.

In addition to saving the customer money via serving as a conduit for transferring solar energy to the site, the Nissan Leaf at NewLab is utilized to reduce the site’s costly demand charges, potentially saving over $700 in a single month. On Friday afternoon of Climate Week, demand unexpectedly increased by 20%, surging up to a 193 kW peak, and the Fermata Energy system automatically reacted to reduce this peak by discharging the system. Throughout the afternoon the Fermata Energy system leveraged the solar energy stored in its battery to reduce the demand peak by 14.6 kW, which would equate to $518 savings if Friday's event was the peak day for the month.

Fermata Energy is excited to share this real life example of how “power is mobility” and that EVs are quickly being utilized as assets beyond mobility.

Leveraging their proprietary AI-enabled software, Fermata Energy utilizes vehicle-to-grid (V2G) bidirectional charging technology turning parked EVs into crucial mobile power storage assets that can aid in the swift transition to renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. This technology showcases a near future where EV owners can actively contribute to energy markets, and their vehicles can serve as emergency power sources during power outages or grid instability.

V2G bidirectional charging technology stands at the crossroads of this transition as it delivers the ability for EVs to draw power from charging stations and return surplus power to the grid. Fermata Energy creates a sustainable loop, addressing key concerns about the stability of the electric grid as more EVs come into use. Fermata Energy has validated the efficacy of this technology in powering buildings across the United States, manifesting the untapped potential of EVs as versatile assets beyond transportation.
