A recognized thought leader in the field of vehicle-to-grid technology, Prof. Slutzky is founder and Chairman of the Board of Fermata Energy. He launched the company with the specific purpose to unlock the value in EV batteries, making EVs more cost effective for the driving public, and to harness the aggregate capacity of EVs to provide much-needed grid resilience.

He has earned the reputation of being a policy wonk and serial entrepreneur committed to preservation of sensitive ecological systems, protecting the long-term integrity of our biosphere, and working to solve the challenges of global warming. In addition to more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur, David served as a Senior Policy Advisor at the White House and EPA during the Clinton Administration. At the White House, he coordinated the International Task Force of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development, where he focused his efforts on the environmental and labor implications of international trade agreements, such as the Multilateral Agreement on Investments.

Prior to Fermata Energy, David co-founded Skeo Solutions, an environmental policy consulting firm. He is a Research Associate Professor in the Science, Technology and Society Program at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science. Slutzky earned his BA and pursued graduate studies in Political Philosophy at the University of Chicago, and received his law degree from the Program on Energy and the Environment at Chicago-Kent College of Law.

As CEO of Fermata Energy, Tony Posawatz brings a career of experience in automotive-tech advancement. He was formerly the Executive-in-Charge of Global Electric Vehicle Development and Vehicle Line Director, Chevrolet Volt at General Motors (GM). He also served as the President/CEO of Fisker Automotive and has been a Board Director of several auto-tech companies (Metalsa, INRIX, Nexeon, Spiers New Technologies (SNT), Envision Solar - EVSI/Beam Global, Renovo Auto, Atieva/Lucid Motors) and an Advisory Board member of Fermata Energy, Secure America’s Future Energy - SAFE Electrification Coalition. Tony is considered an expert on the future of mobility, the electric driving ecosystem and the integration of future transportation technologies - ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electric, Shared).

Bringing more than $2 billion in M&A and restructuring deal experience to Fermata Energy, John Wheeler is focused on the rapid commercialization and deployment of vehicle-to-everything solutions. He develops the use cases and investment structures that make V2G a fast-growing reality and widely sought after grid-edge solution throughout North America and Europe. 

John also worked with green visionary, Bill McDonough, advising Fortune 500  companies on renewable and energy efficiency strategies. Before joining   Fermata, John previously served as a fellow with the Environmental Defense Fund, where he helped SAP Labs evaluate their green software portfolio and achieve their goal of becoming 50% renewably-powered.  John holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, a B.S. in Environmental Design from Art Center College of Design, and a B.S. in Economics and Philosophy from University of Virginia.

A well-known expert in electromagnetics and design of magnetic devices for power electronics applications in utility application markets, Glenn Skutt leads the development of the bidirectional charging hardware and electrical engineering design team at Fermata Energy. He has served as the principal investigator for multiple government research projects and critical contracts in high reliability power electronics and power inverter operation. He is the founder and president of PowerHub Systems.

Aaron Gillmore, a clean transportation and renewable energy industry veteran with over three decades of experience, currently serves as the Chief Commercial Officer at Fermata Energy. Gillmore’s diverse expertise encompasses commercial electric vehicles, EV charging, renewable energy, battery storage, and utility interconnection. His leadership roles at WAVE and BYD, where he introduced growth strategies and led large-scale, zero-emission fleet deployments, reflect his commitment to fostering sustainable, clean transportation.

Prior to his current role, Gillmore held pivotal positions at successful start-ups Tesla and SolarCity, leading business development and sales organizations, and creating innovative market entry strategies and financing models. His early corporate roles culminated as the Senior Vice President of Development for Lendlease Corporation, handling residential master-planned real estate transactions and business development initiatives worth billions of dollars.

Gillmore began his professional journey in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer supervising multi-million-dollar development and renovation projects. A licensed civil engineer, he was recognized as one of the 40 under 40 industry leaders by Building Design + Construction Magazine in 2007. Gillmore holds academic degrees from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and the University of California, Berkeley, and has completed an Executive Leadership Development Program at Columbia Business School in New York.

Nicole is an experienced attorney passionate about helping technology companies achieve business results. Prior to joining Fermata Energy, Nicole served as in-house counsel for Fortune 500 tech companies and a cybersecurity startup. She began her legal career at the law firm Sidley Austin. Before law school, Nicole was a business analyst at McKinsey & Company. Nicole attended Harvard College and Georgetown University Law Center.

David Sandalow is the Inaugural Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy and co-Director of the Energy and Environment Concentration at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.  

David has served in senior positions at the White House, State Department and U.S. Department of Energy. He came to Columbia from the U.S. Department of Energy, where he served as Under Secretary of Energy (acting) and Assistant Secretary for Policy & International Affairs. 

David writes and speaks widely on energy and climate policy. Recent works include Electric Vehicle Charging in China and the United States (February 2019, co-author), Direct Air Capture of Carbon Dioxide Roadmap (December 2018, project chair), Guide to Chinese Climate Policy (July 2018), A Natural Gas Giant Awakens (June 2018, co-author), The Geopolitics of Renewable Energy (2017, co-author), Financing Solar and Wind Power: Lessons from Oil and Gas (2017, co-author), CO2 Utilization Roadmap 2.0 (2017, project chair) and The History and Future of the Clean Energy Ministerial (2016). Other works include Plug-In Electric Vehicles: What Role for Washington? (2009) (editor), U.S.-China Cooperation on Climate Change (2009) (co-author) and Freedom from Oil (2008).

David  is a member of the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) Steering Committee and chair of the ICEF Innovation Roadmap Project. He serves as a director of Fermata Energy and Highview Power Storage. He is also a member of the Global CO2 Initiative Advisory Board, Zayed Future Energy Prize Selection Committee, University of Michigan Energy Institute Advisory Board, Electric Drive Transport Association’s “Hall of Fame” and Council on Foreign Relations. David is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and Yale College.

Marty Weiner was a founding architect and engineer of Pinterest, and the first Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Reddit. Marty brings with him extensive leadership experience in scaling companies in emerging technologies and new industries. 

At Pinterest, Marty was a founding engineer responsible for scaling the site from hundreds of users to 10s of millions and beyond. He then joined Reddit as its first CTO tasked with building a world-class engineering team and ensuring the site could handle 500+ million people visiting every month.

Mr. Takafumi Anegawa graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering and joined Tokyo Electric Power Company in 1983. His first assignment was core management at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In the nuclear field, his major contributions were the development of Simplified BWR, core design of Advanced Boiling Water Reactor and licensing work of Mixed Oxide Fuel.

In 2002, Mr. Anegawa started his new job to promote adoption of electric vehicles. He invented the DC quick charging method knows as CHAdeMO and produced the first CHAdeMO DC fast charger. He jointly developed a new EV that can be recharged by a high power DC charger with Subaru and Mitsubishi Motors. In March 2010, he founded the CHAdeMO association which has hundreds of members around the world.

After the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident in 2011, Mr. Anegawa concentrated on the recovery efforts for 7 years as the Chief Nuclear Officer / Managing Executive Officer of TEPCO. During this period, Mr. Anegawa lead an internal task force to investigate the root cause of the accident and made a report of lessons learned from the accident.
